Blooming during mid-summer, these small white blooms decorate tall stems that can be found along the trail edges of Cape Lookout. T. trifoliata has three large leaflets with sharp-toothed edges near the base of the plant and smaller undivided, but also toothed, leaves along the stems. The flowers, arranged in a tall panicle, have five pointed petals and ten stamens. It grows in moist, coniferous, shaded settings at low to mid elevations. There three varieties in the Pacific Northwest, one of which has a limited range in Washington and southern British Columbia. The variety we have here is T. trifoliata var. trifoliata.
